Štrbské Pleso

It is one of the most famous Tatra tarns and is accessible to the general public. Situated at an altitude of 1,346.6 meters above sea level, it is the second-largest tarn on the Slovak side of the mountains. It covers an area of 19.8 hectares and reaches a depth of 20 meters. On average, it is covered by ice for 155 days of the year. An interesting fact is that, in 1925, its frozen surface hosted the Ice Hockey World Championships. Today, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the tarn from the shore—via the Štrbské Pleso educational trail—or directly from the water; boating here boasts a tradition spanning more than 130 years.

You can get there by regional transport system in the High Tatras - TEŽ, from station Stará Lesná, for approx. hour and a half.
